Life Photographs

Why it’s important to digitalize?

  • Slides, prints and film deteriorate over time and your precious memories could be lost. They will deteriorate due to mold/bacteria, fade with time and may get torn or damaged. Often boxes of slides and negatives are stored away in forgotten corners until it’s too late. Molds and bacteria can spread to your entire collection.

  • If there has been some damage, I can help restore images before they get worse.

  • It’s never been easier to digitalize and share photographs through social media for friends and family to share in your enjoyment. This is preserving your family history for generations to come, the more family members you share your photographic treasures with, the more chance they have of being preserved for decades.

  • Digitalizing your photos can lead to other exciting projects such as adding to family history genealogy archives or projects centered around a special event or an important period in your family’s history.

  • Natural disasters do happen! Floods, fires, tornadoes and other natural disasters that mother nature throws our way could possibly erase photographic elements of your family history. Digitalizing, sharing and cloud-based storage is your safeguard.

The Process

  • Contact me via the contact page or email me at stuart@shutterscan.com and tell me about your project for a free quote.

  • We will discuss and arrange for me to pick-up or mail-in your project items.

  • Pick-up will depend of the size of the project and location, otherwise mail-in will be required.

  • For pick-up, I can either come to your home, office or at a pre arranged 'Safe Trade Spot' such as a police station car park.

  • Once I have collected in person or received by mail your memorabilia, I will check your inventory list.

  • The inventory list will be filled in by you and you will need to read and sign the terms and conditions sheet before work commences.

  • 50% estimated cost of the project will need to be paid and the final balance settled before items are returned to you.

  • Your photographs, slides and negatives will be inspected for damage and receive a gentle cleaning and dust removal.

  • Your treasures are handled with great care whilst wearing static and lint free white gloves.

  • Using a professional grade scanner your loose photos are scanned by hand at 900 DPI with higher DPI levels available as an extra option.

  • More delicate photographs, slides and negatives will be scanned using a professional flatbed scanner at high DPI levels available as an extra option.

  • The maximum size for photo scanning is 8.5” x 11.5”.

  • Your images will be digitalized into JPEG files (TIFF files are offered as an additional extra).

  • All scanned images receive basic editing adjustments such as minor scratch removal, color corrections and composition cropping.

  • More detailed editing and restoration is available if needed, see here for more information about the restoration process.
