I am Stuart Monk, a British/American photographer and image editor. I live in the Raleigh area with my wife and three sons having moved to North Carolina from Connecticut a few years ago. My wife Linda and I have travelled the world extensively and have lived in the USA since 2005 which is when I founded Stuart Monk Photography.

My photography career includes; managing and growing my photographic portfolios at a number of agencies including both royalty free and rights managed licensed imagery; working with private and commercial clients on photoshoots and my own studio production business. There is a good chance you have seen examples of my imagery in films, on TV, book covers, posters and on many webpages.

For the last 11 years I have also worked as a photo and footage content reviewer for a leading stock agency, assessing imagery for technical and legal compliance.

I was inspired to found ShutterScan through my personal experiences and needs to ‘Preserve the Past’ of my own family’s history. My wife who is from the mid-west inherited a huge collection of slides, photographs and films which documented her family’s travels and lives for over the last 150 years. I immediately saw that this valuable family history needed to be digitalized, preserved and shared to maintain the continuity of their family legacy.

 

I have found great satisfaction in the process of scanning into digital format people’s history, seeing the delight when clients see their images brought back to life, especially if restoration has been carried out.

My formal education includes a Bachelor’s degree from Oxford Brookes University, Oxford, UK and a Masters in Business Administration from the University of Surrey, Guildford, UK.
